Why Choose Same-Day Crowns? Benefits and Procedure Explained

If you’ve ever needed a dental crown in the past, you probably remember the long wait times, the temporary crown that never quite felt right, and the multiple trips back and forth to the dentist. At Franklin County Laser Dentistry, we’re proud to offer a more convenient option: same-day crowns made right here in our Washington office using advanced CEREC technology.

Same-day crowns are a modern solution for restoring damaged teeth quickly and beautifully—no messy impressions, no temporary crowns, and no waiting weeks for a lab. Let’s explore what they are, why patients love them, and how the process works from start to finish.

What Are Same-Day Crowns?

A crown is essentially a protective “cap” that covers a tooth that’s been weakened by decay, cracks, or large fillings. Traditionally, crowns were created in an off-site lab, which meant at least two visits: one to prepare your tooth and place a temporary crown, and another weeks later to place the final version.

With CEREC technology, we can design, mill, and place your custom crown in just a single appointment. Using digital scans and an in-office milling machine, your new crown is created with precision and bonded securely to your tooth—all in the same day.

Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

1. Convenience You Can Count On

No more waiting weeks with a temporary crown. Same-day crowns save you time by eliminating the need for multiple appointments. Most patients are finished in just a couple of hours.

2. Comfort from Start to Finish

Forget gooey impression trays. With digital scanning, we capture a 3D image of your tooth comfortably and accurately. The fit is more precise, which means fewer adjustments and a more natural feel.

3. Durability and Beauty Combined

CEREC crowns are made of high-quality ceramic that mimics the look and strength of natural enamel. They’re stain-resistant, long-lasting, and blend seamlessly with your smile.

4. Protects and Restores Your Tooth Quickly

By placing the final crown the same day, your tooth is immediately restored and protected from further damage or sensitivity.

The Same-Day Crown Procedure

Step 1: Preparing Your Tooth
Dr. Schuyler carefully reshapes the tooth to make room for the crown and ensures the foundation is strong and healthy.

Step 2: Digital Scanning
Instead of traditional impressions, we use a CEREC Primescan to take a quick digital scan. This scan creates a detailed 3D model of your tooth.

Step 3: Designing and Milling Your Crown
Using advanced software, your custom crown is designed right on-screen. The design is sent to our in-office mill (the Primemill), which carves your crown out of a block of ceramic in about 15 minutes.

Step 4: Fitting and Bonding
We check the fit, make any needed adjustments, and bond the crown permanently in place. You leave the same day with a fully restored tooth.
